Is it a big deal that Microsoft has reportedly laid off around 1000 employees, including Xbox staff?

I don't know if it's that big of a deal but I do find it interesting. On one hand, Microsoft is trying to close an almost 70 billion dollar deal for actvision blizzard and trying to convince regulators and governmental bodies to let the deal go through. But on the other hand its reportedly firing around 1000 employees including existing staff in the xbox division.

It seems a bit counter intuitive. It makes you wonder if more cuts will be expected once they fully acquire Activision Blizzard.

I bet there are a few former xbox staff and Microsoft employees right now, that wished Microsoft had just held on to them instead of spending billions acquiring another company.
