Administrators Herbert Posted April 25 Administrators Share Posted April 25 Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida says AI will change the nature of learning for developers. I can think of three huge benefits if this were the case. Number one if this becomes a reality, then I expect for originality in gaming to improve dramatically. People will be able to design truly unique games with deep, layered gameplay mechanics. There will still be cookie cutter games but even those will have their own unique identity from the games they are trying to emulate. Secondly this will also be a boon to long time fans of a particular franchise. If you loved an original game that released 10 to 20 years ago and think its well past time for a remake odds are its much more likely to happen. Having an AI do the grunt for repetitive tasks and ironing out bugs will allow the devs to spend their time to reimagine the classics and bring them to a new generation. Final Fantasy fans, I'm thinking of you! If this were the case I would highly encourage publishers to create a remake and a remix. The remake should focus on providing next gen graphics and presentation and additional content to a well established proven formula. The remix or even new game+ mode should should be a reimagining you could change up the story bits, allow for events to unfold in a different way and fiddle with the outcome of some major characters. Thirdly, no excuses for third party devs not going completely multiplatform and I mean that in the truest sense. Every game should be on every platform that has the specs to support it, even PC. Let gamers play games on the platform of their choice. I remember in my earlier years, I loved playing sports games on PlayStation and playing First Person Shooters on Xbox. That was just my personal preference and every year my purchases mirrored that. It would be nice to get back to that, I feel like gaming has lost just a little bit of that lately.
