Neil Druckmann On The Potential Backlash When Adapting The Last of Us Part 2 For Seasons 2 and 3 of The TV Series

Neil Druckmann says he doesn't care about the backlash to The Last of Us Part 2? I'd have to know more specific backlash he's refering to. I'm sure some of it is warranted and much of it is not. As a writer you can't care about every single complaint, no matter if it's constructive or just plain negative. But also as a writer, this is your baby, you're not exactly going forward with no feelings at all about some of the original backlash. I'm sure he cares about some of it.

I mean look at George RR Martin(author of a song of ice and fire AKA a game of thrones). He is an incredibly accomplished writer, he receives all kinds of criticism on decisions that his characters make, his detailed accounting of food that's being consumed for dinner,  depiction of violence, the length of time it's taking to come out with the next book, and on and on it goes.

Martin doesn't let the criticism affect his writing but he's been open and honest about his feelings regarding the feedback he's received. Patrick Rothfuss, another extremely accomplished writer has expressed his feelings on fan criticism at times as well. It's part of the process.

So for a writer like Neil Druckmann to say he doesn't care, is a bit disingenuous to me and is a bit of a slap in the face to people that are huge fans of the The Last of Us Part 1 and have some strong feelings about Part 2. I mean how can the fans care more about the story and the way its presented more than the writer himself? Sometimes, you gotta take the good with the bad, appreciate the opinions of the fans, and carry their criticism on to the next piece to try to make it even better than the one before.
